The most important rule for any activity in the wilderness is that you NEVER leave anyone behind. That’s how people die and they don’t get found for a long time because they were probably hurt or lost and had no way to get help because THEY WERE ALONE! Especially when they saw she was having a rough time. They allowed her to join them, so they therefore took responsibility for her being part of their group. Their mistaken assumptions of her physical fitness wasn’t her fault. They clearly weren’t novice hikers so they knew better than to allow someone who they weren’t certain of their capabilities to join them. When you go into the wilderness you stick together. They prioritized their itinerary over their own friend. That’s selfish and irresponsible

They’re all idiots. Op should’ve discussed with her friend how grueling the hike is and how they prepared. The friend should not als to join if she can’t. And than when she was at a lodge should’ve looked for an über home

It’s not that she isn’t physically fit enough to do the activity, it’s that your body needs certain nutrition before and during said activity, and proper pacing. Hikes are a marathon, not a sprint. It doesn’t matter what you eat as long as it’s balanced. If you don’t eat or drink, you’re going to fail the hike. It sounds like she’s only ever done short bursts of physical activity in contained environments. Your body becomes an engine, and your engine needs gas. It can’t burn fat quickly enough to compensate for how much energy you’re spending.

To me it doesn’t sound likely actually spoke to her about this, they discussed their plans and when their friend said oh that sounds like fun can I join they said themselves they assumed by looking at her she’s healthier than them so she’s got this when she does completely different kinds of physical activity

Real friends would be genuinely concerned about her- not about themselves being ‘too tired to drive’ the following day.
Also, did they not ask her why she wasn’t eating/drinking when they were??

THATS HOW PEOPLE DIE!!! The entire time, they noticed she didn’t carb load, they knew she didn’t train up for this, when they got back they found all her food!! Terrible people
