I’ve always wondered why bosses think that threats will make me either confess that I’m not really sick, or stop being sick, and be awesome instead 🤦🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️

This boss is an idiot at the very least. Does he want the whole team or department sick?

When I was in high school (secondary school in the UK? I was 14 almost 15), a really bad strain of flu swept the US. It literally made the national news. At one point, about 30% of the student and staff population was out sick. This was a high school of about 1,000 students. It was really bad. Unfortunately, the prevailing attitude back then was still things like “perfect attendance” in school.

I realized I didn’t feel well after lunch, but decided I had to tough it out until 2:00 when I could, according to the rules, leave early. The school I went to was private and used modular scheduling. It was across town and I bussed. On the bus to downtown, I got sick into my backpack. Once downtown, I dragged myself to the state office building where Mom worked. I barely made it to a bathroom. One of her underlings offered to get help and then realized who I was. Mom got me home right away.

I was out almost a week. When I *thought* I was better, I went back. I barely lasted the day and was back in bed for almost 2 more weeks. All told, I was sick almost 3 weeks and I wasn’t an unusual case. At least a few of the teachers were out that long too. Like I said, that outbreak made the national news. The school made accommodations for students that had missed so much class time. We weren’t made to feel “less than” for having been sick. And they were certainly glad the sick ones had stayed home. People died in that outbreak. (This was the “swine flu” of 1978.)

I worked a job, you could self diagnose and have a week off.
If you got a doctor’s note, which you could phone in , and get 2 weeks off, min.
