I caught covid in 2022, by then everyone was already taking off masks and stuff, i called out, my boss was hounding me for not showing up, tested positive, showed it to them, they said theyd gove me a day or two, ended up calling out the entire week but tried to do what I could from home, but most of my job is labor, they held it against me.

Everyone else that caught covid in the company got 2 weeks vacation and blessings and all that, me I got guilt tripped, called lazy, and only took off 4 days and worked from home and still got vacation days yoinked from my work portal.

Had a boss like this she expected me to train people when I couldn’t talk. I resigned took me 8 weeks to get over it

The “Bradford Factor”. Each time you’re off sick is counted as a seperate absence. Companies set their own limits on how many sickness absences are permitted before they begin a disciplinary process for absenteeism (usually an average of 3 absences in 12 months.) If you’re off sick stay home til you’re sure you’re well enough to return and stay at work. (I know of some hospitals with a limit of 2 absences.) It’s a counterproductive system which enciurages people to work when they’re ill and not fit for work…and runs the risk of making others ill too.

My mother’s boss tried to prevent her from taking a sick day to go to the doctor. She told him several times that felt like she was about to collapse, and that she had chest pain and a history of heart issues. He said he didn’t believe her, because they were on a deadline and she needed to show up a meeting. Once she found out that he legally couldn’t stop her, she went to her doctor who sent her to the hospital. She ended up taking 3 weeks of sick leave, but she probably would have gone back sooner if they didn’t accuse her of lying. Bosses like this just end up hurting the company in the long run

often if i am sick this is my 4th day. i get two days from the doctor on the 3rd i feel fine for 4-5 hours but 8 hours is too much and the 4th i get not much done because i am just exhausted and tired🤷

My job has this trick. People get a cold, drag themselves in then stay off and it gets counted as 2 absences. Instead of spending 2 days in bed or 3 and coming back better and uninfectious to others, people endanger the whole ‘team’

Years ago when I was off sick due to an operation and recovery time, and I had the highest Bradford factor score because of it.
Months later the managers were trying to think of ways to manage the score, and one of them came up with the incentive to give an extra day of annual leave to staff with a whole year of no sick days.

I remember getting on my high horse and saying that’s unfair, people can’t help being sick, blah blah blah…

I don’t know why I was thinking like that, but I really thought I was right.

I still have to take time off due to endometriosis, but I really wish I had thought about it a bit better. I realise now that I was totally wrong, and I’m sorry to those staff members who worked harder/longer to cover my sickness. I don’t care about it being an incentive to reduce the Bradford score, but it would have actually just been a really lovely way to say thank you to the rest of the team for covering my work.
